Spark notes for: What Came First? The Chicken or the Egg? Your Self-esteem or Your Accomplishments?
Many of us, as adults are trying to constantly fill a void within ourselves by being the best or having the best. We spend so much effort trying to find our sense of worth in other things that we never even try to look within ourselves. For most of us, we think that our self esteem will grow and strengthen as we become more accomplished in our lives, but the truth is, a sense of worth and strong self-esteem is needed in order to excel. During adolescence, many students are dealing with not only identity issues, but self esteem and worth. During this vital time in ones personal development, family and teachers are the closest and most influential effects in a child's self-esteem. As teachers, we must learn to focus on building healthy minds rather than high grades and test scores. We must build the student from the inside out because that is where one finds their strength and ambition. That is how we create healthy minded adults.
